In this article, I give you my Nokia 220 and Nokia Asha 230 review with specs included. After the previously presented new Nokia models – X, X +, XL that work on a modified version of the Android system, we will try to introduce you to the lower price range models, which Nokia also presented this week at the MWC in Barcelona, the Nokia 220 and Nokia Asha 230.
According to the people from Nokia, these are two phones that should be interesting to people for whom they would be the first mobile phones in their lives, which will provide them with access to the Internet at any time. Or those who want a reliable and interesting secondary phone whose battery will last much longer than those in large smartphones.
And as she boasted about the information that in just one week she is selling as many as a million pieces of the 105 model, we are moving on to see what she has prepared for us this time.
Nokia 220
Nokia 220 is Nokia’s latest “basic” model, as they still like to call them. A device that does not have a touchscreen but a standard keyboard with physical buttons, a 2.4-inch screen with 240 * 320 resolution and a 2MP camera. Apart from being a mobile phone, this model can also serve as an mp3 player because it has support for microSD memory cards with a capacity of up to 32GB.
A handy flashlight option, located on the top of the device and which Nokia often inserts in its cheaper models, is here tomorrow as well. In addition to the basic speed of the Internet (on GSM networks), standard options for calls, SMS, MMS and email messages, an option worth mentioning is the stereo FM radio.
The battery that comes with this model has a capacity of 1100 mAh and according to previous experiences with similar Nokia models, it should provide autonomy longer than a week, and very possibly even longer. The price of this model, without taxes, is only 29 euros. All in all, this little one seems very interesting, and whether it will repeat the success of the older Nokia 105 model remains to be seen.
Nokia Asha 230
The youngest and, by characteristics, the weakest model from the new Asha family is the Nokia Asha 230. Unlike its older brothers, the Asha 500, 501, 502, and 503, with which it shares the same platform, brings absence and difference in some functions, which a certain number of potential buyers may not like it.
The first of these is the absence of a WiFi module, forcing the Asha 230 to use a GSM network to connect to the Internet. Another important change is the reduction of the already small resolution of the camera from 3.15 to 1.3 MP, whose images will still be suitable for sharing on social networks, as people from Nokia explained.
The Asha 230 also brings a slightly smaller screen, which this time is 2.8 inches and has an unchanged resolution of 240×320 pixels. There is also support for microSD memory cards up to 32GB, stereo FM radio, as well as the latest version of the Nokia Asha software platform, the arrival of which was soon announced for other, above-mentioned, Asha models.
Nokia has tried to correct all these shortcomings with the announced price, which will amount to an incredible $45 without taxes. The availability of this model is expected in March, and both models will come in variants with one and two cards (dual-sim). The standard, which we are used to with the Nokia model, will come in several different colors that you can see from the attached photos and videos.
Whether Nokia will continue to be the ruler in the category of, so to speak, ultra-cheap mobile phones whose price is up to / around $50, or we can expect a turnaround in favor of the competition, remains to be seen in the period ahead.
