The titan fight continues. After we tried to give an answer to the question of who is better LG G3 or Samsung Galaxy S5, we will now make a comparative view of LG G3 vs HTC One M8. The LG G3 is the latest in a constellation of premium models, so somehow it seems to us that it is time to compare it with these two slightly older models.
As is usually the case, high-end phones have a lot to offer. They have some things in common, but the impression is that they are two different philosophies, which will be shown in the lines below.
Logically, the conclusion is that the LG G3 and HTC One M8 don’t have the same target groups, and since there are a lot of people who can’t decide which group they belong to (whether it’s a new one related to the unexpectedly good G3 or one that prefers the One M8 with its own special story) then such comparative representations can be useful.
LG G3 vs HTC One M8 design
Both models rely on the look of their predecessors. Ok, the designs have been improved, but they haven’t gone revolutionary too far. The LG G3 is obviously the successor to the LG G2, but it is far more refined and elegant, so if you want, more elegant than its predecessor.
Ok, the new LG is still made of plastic, but it now has the appearance of brushed metal, which is definitely a shift. As a result, the G3 looks better and collects fewer prints, while the rounded part on the back allows for easier holding in the hand.
The wallpaper can be removed and then a microSD card inserted or the battery replaced. The recognizable side of this phone is definitely the place where the keys are grouped, which makes it recognizable. By the way, we have already said that when you get used to them, the keys are quite good and practical.
HTC has long since crossed paths with plastic and this model is 90% made of metal. The quality and visual impression of this model are at a very high level, and as with the competitor, the background is a bit rounded, so it is more practical to hold.
Unlike the G3, the One M8 cannot be opened, so there is no battery replacement, but luckily the microSD port is on the side so you can expand the memory capacity. As this is a larger phone, and the main button is on the top, you will have little trouble pressing it easily.
Winner: Although the G3 has a larger screen, LG has managed to pack it in an approximately identical case, which is great, both from a practical point of view and from the smaller areas around the screen, where the G3 is really great.
This phone is slightly wider than the competitor, but it is also slightly better in terms of practicality because the LG G3 is lighter and less slippery than the HTC One M8, which is a consequence of the shiny but heavier metal case.
However, whichever you choose you won’t go wrong, because, with the Xperia Z2, these are the most beautiful phones on the market. But as the One M8 is almost the only metal phone on the market, some slight advantage goes to it.
LG G3 vs HTC One M8 screen
If we look at what is written on paper, the LG G3 has almost no competitor at the moment. With a fantastic 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels, you get a fantastic result of 534 pixels per inch, which makes it the first phone with quad HD resolution. Impressive!
There is no segment in which the screen does not show its lavish nature. Colors with natural and strong potential, a high level of brightness, excellent viewing angles, and unimaginable sharpness of the image are an integral part of the everyday life of the owner of this phone.
The HTC representative has a smaller, 5-inch full HD screen with an excellent, but still smaller 441 pixels per inch. The image on it is very clean, with also excellent viewing angles and brightness that prevents daylight from disturbing readability.
Winner: One is numbers, the other is practical experience. So do these strong pixels make a difference on the ground? No, until you look at some high-resolution content totally carefully, which is not uncommon, but also too common. I would prefer the LG G3, if for no other reason than all those pixels and the satisfaction of having your first quad HD phone!
LG G3 vs HTC One M8 performance
The leading set of phones has quite similar specifications and the differences between them are very small. They all offer fast operation where each operation runs smoothly. Both phones come with a new Snapdragon 801 processor.
The only difference is the speed at which the processor is “clocked”. The HTC One M8 runs at 2.3GHz, while the LG G3 runs at 2.5GHz. Both phones have 2GB of RAM, but there is also an LG G3 with 3GB of RAM if you opt for the version with 32GB of internal memory.
When you work on them, everything flows smoothly and everything opens in an instant. With these phones, you will not experience downtime, interruptions, delays, waiting, and everything that is an integral part of the average Android phone.
Still, if you’re looking for hair in the egg, benchmark tests give preference to LG’s pollen, but that won’t mean too much to you in your daily work. It might be smarter to see which interface offers more and takes less. HTC Sense seems like a better option, for several reasons, and one of them is that some things for hair go faster than some LG interface, but I repeat, it’s all in the domain of looking for hair in the egg.
Winner: Draw.
LG G3 vs HTC One M8 hardware and additional options
This is the field where the biggest differences can be seen (except for the design of course). In addition to microSD slots, both phones also have infrared transmitters with which you can control other devices, such as a TV.
As these phones have a multifunctional role, it is clear that you will often use them to listen to music or watch movies. Well, HTC is better here. Thanks to the great BoomSound speakers, it leaves all the competition in the dust.
When it comes to battery life, HTC has a smaller and irreplaceable one of 2600mAh, while LG is ready to allow you to replace the more generous 3000mAh battery. This means that you can always carry a spare battery with you, which is no small thing.
Battery life is at about the same level, but as LG consumes more power due to the larger and higher quality screen, it should be given a gram of recognition more.
Winner: If you’re a multimedia fanatic, there’s no doubt that loud speakers will come in handy. Admittedly, most users use headphones more often which diminishes the charm of great BoomSound speakers. On the other hand, the knowledge that with two batteries the LG G3 can easily last two, two and a half days will be more important for many. Therefore, a small advantage to LG.
LG G3 vs HTC One M8 camera
The story of two completely different philosophies is best seen here. These two phones bring two diametrically opposed thoughts on how to make a good camera for the phone. Still, they have something in common. The results are impressive.
Despite the laser autofocus, LG entered this story a bit more cautiously. The 13MP sensor with your favorite auto mode is fast as an arrow and very effective in combination with OIS + technology. OIS + is a combination of optical and software stabilization, which makes photos cleaner even if you or the subject you are shooting are moving. So, everything is simple and fast.
On the other hand, the HTC One M8 has a 4MP UlraPixel camera, or better yet a camera, because the phone has two sensors, one of which “captures” in-depth information about the subject you are photographing. Unlike the G3, there are more shooting options here.
Winner: if you’re looking for classic photo clarity with more detail, the LG G3 is better. It’s the same situation if you want to post-process photos because 4MP photos just aren’t the right material for something like that. LG has an advantage even when it comes to color quality, while it is a draw when it comes to shooting in the dark, which was the biggest trump card of HTC’s model.
LG G3 vs HTC One M8 Conclusion
The HTC One M8 has been present on the market and the public for several months now, and some lucky owners have had enough time to be convinced of its qualities. On the other hand, the LG G3 is a fairly fresh model and it is clear that it plays on that card, regardless of the fact that it is more or less known about it. And that’s enough to easily conclude that both phones are great. Whichever you choose, you will certainly not go wrong.
If you are looking for a flawless screen, a replaceable battery, and an extra fast and quality camera, the LG G3 has an advantage. On the other hand, despite some shortcomings in terms of convenience, the HTC One M8 is still flawless in design, with a great Sense user interface and unsurpassed BoomSound speakers.
Determine your priorities and needs and make a choice based on that. Both models cost the same, so it won’t be for or against one or the other phone. See a comparative view of the two phones HERE.
